Production problems on the iPhone 6 have been solved Posted: 25 Jun 2014 06:22 AM PDT The iPhone 6 and its reported phablet sibling are quite possibly the most leaked Apple devices ever. We seem to be seeing info and images of these handsets everywhere and Cupertino's usual government like secrecy has slipped away. It is to be expected in the modern era of social media and cameras in every pocket, and today we have something extra to give you regarding the production process for the latest iPhones. Manufacturing issues are common in the building of smartphones and Apple deals with its fair share of them because of the high grade components the company uses. The apparently soon to be unveiled phablet iPhone has had a number of issues according to reports, which is to be expected as it is an entirely new device for Apple. However, it also seems the new flagship, the iPhone 6, has also been suffering on the production line. The 4.7-inch flagship is the first from Cupertino to come with a larger panel, with previous iPhones packing at the most 4-inch Retina Displays. The new device has been causing Apple problems, with the production process severely hampered by an issue with the housing of the smartphone. Orders were placed with Catcher for the metal to build the chassis of the iPhone 6, but Apple had to reject a number of batches because the binding between metal and plastic was faulty. The result has meant the company has moved away from Catcher for the time being and has instead employed to fellow component suppliers Jabil and long-time collaborator Foxconn. The problem seems to have been averted for the time being, meaning the iPhone 6 has overcame its first hurdle in the production process. [VIA]

Survey says the iPhone 6 will be a monster success Posted: 25 Jun 2014 05:23 AM PDT This can probably be chalked up as the most obvious news of the year, but according to a recent survey the iPhone 6 and any handset that launches alongside it will sell in the millions. Yeah, we get it, you hardly need a survey to tell you that the iPhone 6 will sell well, simply because that is what all iPhones do. Millions of units shift at launch and the device continues to be the lead seller throughout its life, so the iPhone 6 will be a bon-a-fide hit. A few hard numbers to back up the claim never hurt though, and Investment bank RBC Capital Markets has been the company crunching those numbers. The bank surveyed 4,000 consumers and came up with the next points in a letter to investors. Nearly 50% of consumers who plan to upgrade their phone intend to purchase an iPhone within the next three months. 35% of the users who don't expect to purchase an iPhone would do so should Apple offer a larger form factor (Android cannibalization with iPhone 6). 26% of the consumers are willing to pay a $100 premium for a 5.5" screen size. 74% of the consumers are aware that AAPL will launch a new iPhone this year (airpocket in September guide?). What consumers most desire from a new iPhone is better battery life, followed by larger screen size. This is hardly revelatory stuff, but it is pretty clear that Apple has another massive device on its hands, or could that be two devices. Speculation and indeed numerous reports have suggested Apple will also launch an iPhone phablet with a 5.5-inch screen. That alongside an iPhone 6 is likely to generate even more buzz, especially during the initial launch weekend. Indeed, Apple could even enjoy a better launch period than it did last year when the iPhone 5s and 5c arrived and shifted 9 million units between them over their first weekend on sale.
