The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

Apple redesigned how the App Switcher looks like and act in iOS 7 with inspirations from certain classic jailbreak tweaks like CardSwitcher and the old boring bottom grey switcher has gone. But have you ever been bothered with iOS 7 for scrolling through all the way to the left and right to get to certain page in the App Switcher? Or have you been annoyed with the narrow iPhone screen that is only able to display a little bit more than one app card? Unfortunately it is not easy to go back to iOS 6 classic app switcher easily now.

GridSwitcher is new jailbreak tweak from tom-go that changes the stock iOS 7 horizontal card switcher view to a grid view. It has no option to configure. Once installed you are good to use.

The tweak recalls my memory for GridTab for Safari for iOS 6, which is also a product developed by tom-go. And I can see the spacing is basically identical for the two tweaks. It supports both iPhone and iPad. On an iPad, the grid layout is 3×3 while on the iPhone version, the grid is limited to 2×2 view due to smaller screen size .

On an iPhone, the tweak works in the logic that the most recently used app, or the homescreen is arranged at the top left hand side. The next one is at top right hand side and the followed by the one at the bottom right hand side. It is similar for the iPad layout.

The good thing for GridSwitcher is that it basically only changes how the cards in App Switch display, without harming default iOS 7 feeling and functionalities of it. You can still use the swipe-up gesture to close out each app with single or multiple fingers.

In addition, it is also compatible with other tweaks like Virtual Home and Purge that allows you to invoke app switcher with TouchID sensor and kill all apps by hold-and-tap on app cards respectively. With the recently version 1.0-2 update, it fixes the crash bug with MultitaskingGestures on invoking App Switcher by swiping from the bottom of the screen. This is an extremely good news if you are getting used back to how you work with Zephyr in the iOS 6 ages.

If you are interested in GridSwitcher, you can now purchase and download it on Cydia's BigBoss repo now for $1.50.
