There’s no shortage of video players on iOS platform, and most of them allow you to play a variety of video formats. However, it’s always nice to see new options popping up on the App Store now and then.
KMPlayer was recently released for iOS; it’s a non-encoding video player that has an elegant and functional interface, and allows you to play just about any type of content. The newly released mobile version aside, its default offering has 300 million users from 230 different countries and is offered in 36 different languages.
How to use KMPlayer for iOS
After installing it on your device, you will see all your video files in the main interface. You can also manually browse videos through the navigation drawer, which comes out by sliding from the left corner of the screen.
The media content is supported by file size and information as well as thumbnail views. The Media Library section contains the camera, Download and KMP folders and the explorer section takes you files in iPhone storage (internal and external).
The explorer section shows the folders available on internal and external memory, and they can be sorted by size, date or name. The files inside folders are supported by thumbnails, and tapping them will directly start the playback.
The video player has the playback controls for rewind, forward, next file, recent file and play/pause at the bottom, and the button on the left corner at the bottom can be used to increase playback speed 4 times or slow it down to half. The right corner button can be used to change dimensions and video size, such as configure it to vertical fit, all horizontal, 4:3 or 16.9.
The top left corner of the video player is to lock orientation while the track is played, and it’s also great to prevent accidental triggers. The playback itself works mostly with swipe gesture; horizontal swipes let you move back and forth while a vertical swipe on the left side can be used to control brightness, and volume on the right side.
You can also go to General Settings to toggle headset detection and remote controls, toggle display all files and specify orientation for KMPlayer.
Final thoughts
The app might not be something revolutionary, but has decent enough features and options for a place on your device, and perhaps the top media players for iOS. The icing on the cake is that it comes without a price tag. Share your thoughts if you give it a go.
