The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

The time we spend reading emails on smartphones is increasing every day. That is the reason why app developers keep releasing intriguing email clients like Boxer. Today I decided to check out Molto : a free client that brings a social-network-like experience on iDevices.

The app offers most email providers including AOL, Yahoo, Outlook, iCloud, Gmail and IMAP or POP3 accounts. Entering the details is all you need to do to get started.

How to use Molto for iPhone

Once on your iPhone, it will also ask you to connect to Facebook for linking the email accounts of Facebook users to provide profile pictures to your contact list. The app also works inline images in a unique way.

If an email message contains a video or a photo, Molto will display an inline image for its preview. This lets you skip reading the full email to decide whether it’s worth staying in your inbox; you can preview it to archive the message, or delete it, which reduces the amount of time you spend filtering your inbox.

Each message also contains a social status-like update, with a preview of the message along with the profile picture of the sender. Most of such features and the main interface let you do things faster than what other similar apps offer.

For example, you can swipe any message towards the right to archive or delete it, the client auto sorts personal, services and social emails, tapping any profile picture gives you the option to reply, mark as star, mark as archive and read and a quick reply button at the bottom of a message lets you send messages quickly and easily.

Further, you can share images in links to Facebook within few seconds via the Molto status compose window.

Molto only lacks when it comes to search, as you results are not faster as the Gmail app and there is no auto-complete feature.

Final thoughts

The search feature is only a small problem in what makes Molto otherwise a fast email client. If you’re looking to add a bit of social to the mix of reading emails, then this app could be worth checking out.

You can download Molto free of cost from the App Store. Let us know if you give it a try by leaving comments below and sharing your experiences.
