AirDrop works great for sharing between iOS devices, but it doesn’t let you share these files to Mac or PC, or share files between the two.
Filedrop is an iOS app that lets you send files between a Mac and a PC, two Macs or two PCs over WiFi. You can share images from your camera roll as well as the files you’ve received through the app directly from your iPhone.
How to use Filedrop for iOS
After downloading and installing this app on your iPhone, let it search for systems using your WiFi network. It is important for these systems to have Filedrop, so if you’re trying to send files to a Mac, make sure it has Filedrop installed.
Each device will be displayed under a name; select the name of the device you want to send files to. You can choose three different sources for sharing including your clipboard, your camera roll, and your Fildrop downloads (the files you received through this application). It’s possible to select multiple files by tapping on the required number.
Once the files have been selected, you simply have to tap ‘send’ to complete the process. The recipient device (could be a Mac, Windows desktop or another iOS device) will receive a prompt to accept the incoming file. Accepting the prompt will begin file transfer, and you will be able to see the transfer progress in real time.
If you’re receiving the files yourself, the app is going to ask you to accept them. And after completion of the transfer, the Downloads button will display a notification. Freshly received folders and files through Filedrop will be highlighted in green.
The Downloads button can be tapped to view the received files; you can slide up to see all of them. The menu works like a file manager, giving options to view, share and delete files. Most of the file types can be previewed, as well.
Final thoughts
Filedrop works flawlessly and it actively detects new devices on the app’s network. It is a great way to share files between iOS device and desktops, and the user-friendly interface serves a bonus.
You can download Filedrop from the App Store for $0.99. It is compatible with devices running iOS 7 and above. Let us know if you give it a try and feel free to leave comments.
