I recently wrote about Filedrop, an app that lets iOS users transfer files between Macs, PCs and iOS devices over WiFi. Such apps are a necessity for anyone dealing with files on different platforms as the iOS by its very nature comes with limited cross-platform functionality.
While solutions like Flipdrop might be good for transferring your iOS device content to Macs or PCs, Copybin might be a better option if your case just involves a Mac and an iDevice. It’s a cross platform synchronization app that lets you transfer any file between iOS and Mac at lightning fast speed.
It might not have the most impressive interface, but that’s because it has been made with a focus on functionality more than style. You can use it to transfer almost any text, document, audio and video. But before anything else, Copybin should be installed on both your iOS device and your Mac computer, and both these devices should be connected to the same wireless network.
How to Use Copybin
After installing and launching the app, there is no further configuration required as the app will handle the rest by itself. When you are transferring files from an iOS device, launching the app will show an indicator at the top left corner, showcasing which devices are connected to your network.
The main interface will also display files that have been previously shared. From here, you can select a file and select the forward button to transfer the file to the Mac’s version of Copybin; any transfer instantly appears in the Downloads folder on Mac.
If you’re transferring content from Mac, the process is almost similar. Just select the Copybin icon by clicking on it and drag it towards the box and it will be transferred to your device. In fact, the app transfers any text body to Copybin linked devices, which can be forwarded as text to any supported applications, such as Watsapp and Viber. The app goes as far as to determine if the copied text is a URL or just plain simple text.
The free version of the app places the 15 action limit, but a mere purchase of $0.99 removes the limits as well as the ads that appear in the app. So if cross platform synchronization has been a priority to you and you’ve a Mac and an iOS device, Copybin would serve as a pretty useful tool. Download it from the links below and feel free to leave comments on its working.
