iFixit tears down the new 16GB iPod touch

The team at iFixit wasted no time in buying and tearing down the new version of the 16GB iPod touch that was first revealed on Thursday. Their assessment is that Apple's new low cost iOS device is still going to be hard to repair.

As we reported earlier this week, the new 16GB iPod iouch finally adds the 5 megapixel rear camera inside the case, just like its 32GB and 64GB versions. However, iFixit says that their examination of the new 16GB model shows that it's really a throwback to those older fifth generation iPod touch devices, rather than a real update to the cheaper version.

In any case, iFixit claims that their tear down of the revamped 16GB model shows that it is still as difficult to take apart as the previous version they checked out in 2013. Their final repairability score is 3 out of 10, which is not only low, it's also the same score that the older 16GB iPod touch received.

Keep in mind that we are currently holding a giveaway that will give one lucky iMore reader a new 16GB iPod touch. Are you planning to enter and, if not, are you thinking about getting the new iPod touch now that it has a camera along with some new color options?
