Although the likes of Instagram and Snapchat doesn’t offer anything more than image-sharing, sometimes the images posted on these networks include pretty backgrounds and fancy quotes that make your day. But do you really need these two to be thrilled by image-oriented texts?

Whims is an iOS app that says otherwise; it’s basically a social network where you can make elaborate text snippets and apply text styles, customizable fonts and background images. The end result aka ‘whim‘ can be then published on the app’s network, shared with friends on social networks, or saved directly to the camera roll.

How to use Whims for iPhone

As this is a social networking application, you start by creating a new account via email and choosing a profile picture. After that, you can link your Facebook account, so that the app can search for friends already using the application.

Or you can allow the app to search for people through your iPhone contact list. And there is also an option to invite people to use the app.

There is a ‘Spotlight’ section in Whims which displays the trending images on the network – they will give you an insight on the type of posts published by other users on the network. If you are following someone, or have connected with any friends on the Whim network, you can use the ‘your network’ tab to track their activities.

Users can create their own posts by tapping the big cloud button at the bottom of the device. After you enter the text in the box that appears, you can spruce things up. A list of themes will be available at the bottom of the screen, and you will be able to configure the theme color, the text line spacing as well as indentation and text font.

Any of the posts will be available to people in your network by default, but you can configure them for public view. Images can be directly posted on Facebook within the app.
