The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

There’s no doubt that the iOS 7 weather app is pretty useful; it uses information from Yahoo, and takes hints from other applications when it comes to design.

Weather Line is a new app that does things differently. It emphasis the two most important conditions pertaining to the day’s weather: the temperature and whether it is going to rain or not in the next few hours.

How to use Weather Line on iOS

After installing this app on your phone, the interface that appears will show a line graph presenting the cloud cover and predicted temperature overtime. The time is donated by the ‘now’ label and is highlighted in light blue. The line graph can be viewed hourly, daily, or monthly. Daily will show the forecast for seven days.

The line graph is accurate most of the time, and is accompanied by other information such as the wind speed, sunset, sunrise, humidity, and chance of precipitation. Below all these figures is the rain prediction, which not only shows when it will rain, but also when it is going to rain heavily. However, the forecast shows only sixty minutes out, and is limited in availability to particular countries.

The app is essentially powered by Forecast.io; the company is a newcomer in the weather app arena, but displays fairly accurate results compared to other applications. You’ll find the temperature within a degree or two (Fahrenheit) of the reading on your outdoor thermometer. Ultimately, you’ll start trusting the information the app shows.

The design is in line with the light interface of iOS firmware and allows the app to present the information in the best way possible. The line graph approach to displaying the forecast has also been augmented well by the design – easier to read graphics are preferred over fancy ones.

Final thoughts

Weather Line can be your default application if you’re looking for fast and accurate information. It works with iOS 6 and above (though was designed for iOS 7) and can be downloaded free of cost from this direct link. Let us know if you give it a go and feel free to leave comments.
