The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

No matter how hard you try to remember meetings and monthly events, there’s always one or two that skip out of your mind. To overcome this problem, you can use the default calendar app on your iPhone to mark entries that serve as reminders.

But if you’re looking for more than basic options, then Cal for iOS is an app that may appeal to you. It’s essentially a calendar app that allows you to create new events efficiently. You can also use it to assign locations to tasks, choose different alarm intervals and add invitees to different events. The app also has a background theme that changes for each day.

How to use Cal for iOS

After installing this app on your device, you can sign up with your Facebook credentials or email ID. After logging in, the app will ask for permission to access your calendar contacts and data. This makes the app work more efficiently as it is able to save new events to the default calendar app, and managing existing events.

One you are in the app’s view, you can swipe across to change days. Swiping down from the date section gives you a complete view of the day’s tasks. And swiping up from the same position gives a detailed calendar view, which has a background photo that changes every day. You can configure the genre of these backgrounds from the app’s Settings menu under the ‘Photo theme’ option.

A new event can be created from the ‘+’ icon situated at the top right of the screen. You can enter a task title name and set the alarm, and for tasks, you can enter people from your contact lists and send them invites.

The app also let you assign additional notes, location info and navigation instructions to reminders. Options like Facebook, SMS and email are also available, so that you can contact others without having to leave the app.
