FreedomPop expanding interesting service plans to iPhone 5, 4S and 4

iPhone 5s

FreedomPop, an interesting upstart carrier that has built itself on offering free mobile service, has just opened up its network to both the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. Although it started out only offering service with hotspots and an iPod Touch case running on Sprint's WiMax network, FreedomPop has recently expanded to proper phone service, Sprint's LTE network and has added support for three Apple phones.

Although we're looking at new hardware choices, the FreedomPop value proposition is the same. Once bringing your device and number over to the carrier, you're given a base line of completely free 200 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB of data every single month. If you want to use more, you'll either have to buy buckets of minutes, texts or data, or get others to sign up for the carrier using you as a reference, netting you a bit more to play with every month.

You can bring a Sprint-compatible iPhone 5, 4S or 4 to FreedomPop and they'll get things set up for you when you port your number over, but if you don't have a Sprint-compatible device, FreedomPop will sell you a refurbished iPhone 5 for $349. It's an interesting concept that hasn't really caught on with many customers up until now, but with the addition of recent Apple devices FreedomPop may have a bit better chance picking up customers.
