We’ve come a long way since the inception of smartphones. Simple texts used to be the communication rage when Nokia was leading the mobile phone community.
However, when the iPhone took charge, applications were developed to enable user communication overt the web with text messages, voice calls, and even video clips.
In this regard, I tried out Glide – Video Texting . It’s a messaging app for sending video messages to peers, and is like a cross between an answering machine and Skype.
It also lets you broadcast a live video, as well as send chat with one or multiple friends at a single time, as well as leave messages for those who are offline.
How to get started with Glide
After installing this application on your device, sign up using your Facebook ID. Tap the contacts button at the top right to see which friends already have the app, and choose anyone to send a message to. The important thing to note is that others have to install the app for you to use its features.
Friends don’t necessarily have to be online; the message is delivered to them whenever they log in. You can send both video messages and text messages.
The video recorder button can be used for recording videos. When a friend is online, the app informs you that the option for the live broadcast can now be utilized. Text messages can be sent using the ‘T’ button and entering the text. In-app banners notify you whenever a reply is received to a text or when a new message is received.
When broadcasting or sending messages, you can select several friends; there is a slide-out menu for adding friends that allow you to make groups.
Videos can be recording from the rear facing or the front facing camera. And if you like to leave a conversation, select the ‘leave’ option in the menu bar. This is useful for leaving a group chat that you don’t want to receive notifications for.
Final thoughts
Glide – Video Texting is a great concept that adds the visual element when you’re talking to friends. Texts and pictures can’t have the same effect as videos; the latter is more exciting and fun.
The latest version of the app automatically saves videos to the cloud and allows you to share videos over Twitter and Facebook. You can download it for free from this direct iTunes link. Let us know if you give it a try and feel free to leave comments.
