How many times have you felt the need that your iPhone needs to do more than just taking images?
Evernote’s Scannable is a new app that turns your iOS device running iOS 8 into a scanner. It’s going to be an essential tool for anyone who wants to stay on the top of paperwork.
The app lets you scan most document types, including business cards, receipts, contracts, and Post-it notes.
How to use Scannable for iOS 8
After downloading and installing the app on your device, you point its camera at something you want to scan, and then the app does its job. It works extremely well if the items you want to scan are on a clear background. The app takes a few seconds to scan things before displaying the result on the screen.
Scannable does most of the difficult work, including rotating and cropping images to display the exact result. However, it doesn’t offer the option to adjust contrast and brightness manually; but the service simplifies the process to a great extent. The user can control a series of images with a mixture of taps and gestures.
When it comes to business cards, the app ca translate the details on the card into contact information, and this will include details related to LinkedIn. Documents can be sent to peers, saved to Evernote, or transferred to other apps for greater flexibility.
The app is also smart enough with a variety of items. For example, it can virtually eliminate marks from a folded document during the scan and even out the areas of contrast. And for long receipts, you can scan the entire thing at once rather than needing to capture in sections.
After scanning a particular item, you can tap the check mark icon to review pages in a side-scrolling tray. If you don’t like anything, drag up an item and place it out of the tray to remove it.
The sharing options, accessible from the blue share icon, lets you share via Evernote, Mail, Camera roll and store to cloud storage. In case of cloud storage, documents are sent to the iCloud, but the Locations button can also be tapped to add Google Drive or Dropbox. There’s also a Meeting option that will let you scan to any appointments on your calendar.
Final thoughts
Scannable is a quick way to scan documents anywhere in high quality and share over different platforms. You can download the app free of cost from the App Store. Let us know if you give it a try and feel free to leave comments.
