The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

iPhones can now be connected to cars so that consumers can listen to music while driving, but it can be inconvenient to play/pause music, switch between songs and manage the volume while keeping eyes on the road.

Traveling Tunes is a new app that puts an end to this nuisance by letting you perform all such actions with the use of simple hand gestures. It also has settings that can be configured to increase volume depending on your driving speed, and a lot more.

How to Use Traveling Tunes for iOS

After installing and launching the app on your phone, you can tap the screen to play/pause music. Swiping upwards or downwards with a single finger increases and decreases volume, and swiping leftwards and rightwards forwards and rewinds the track, respectively. You can also swipe left and right with two fingers to move to previous or next track.

The app presents notifications which inform if a particular gesture has been recognized. Tapping and holding on the main screen opens the Settings menu, where you will see several different options. The Colors Settings lets you choose a theme for the player; while the Driving Settings lets you set the volume to the speed as well as define the app’s sensitivity. You can also use the menu to toggle Invert at Night or Dim at Night to make the app easier to read after daylight.

There is also a Gestures setting option that shows the gestures compatible with the app, and lets you edit them according to your preferences. You can also define the sensitivity of volume in response to a gesture, and manage how back and forth the app moves you in a track in response to a rewind and forward gesture.

The Layout tab lets you disable visual cutes, and let you manage the position of the name of the song, artist and album. The Tiles option can be used to manage track information; the app supports orientation for both landscape and portrait mode. The Playlists settings let you tweak the default app action upon launch, pause music when you switch off the app, and enable/disable shuffle and repeat.

Final thoughts

The app works seamlessly and could be particularly handy at instances where your attention is required elsewhere. So you can keep your eyes on the road and control music at the same time.

You can download Traveling Tunes from the App Store free of charge. Feel free to leave your thoughts if you give it a try.
