Apple and Samsung might finally be putting an end to their spats over patents and allegations of violating each other's intellectual property. The two sides have resumed settlement talks to put an end to their many court cases, but lawyers representing Apple claims it's difficult to make that happen in light of Samsung's lawyers comparing them to "jihadists" in recent talks.
In an interview with CNET, Samsung lawyer John Quinn said, "It's kind of hard to to talk settlement with a jihadist." The comment was in reference to deceased Apple co-founder Steve Jobs saying he would declare a "holy war" on Android, but Apple's lawyers say they find it hard to see any chance of a settlement agreement being reached based on Quinn's comments. Lawyers also suggest that these drawn-out talks are just cover for Samsung to continue copying Apple products.
Samsung counters that it's willing to reach an agreement and Apple only uses Quinn's comments as an excuse not to seriously reach a compromise. The lawyers also claim that Apple is using past court victories as a way to make forceful demands that prevent a settlement.
Both sides seem determined to continue fighting in court rather than reach an agreement that might finally put an end to their ongoing feud. The cases have spawned several courts and years, and it looks like they will continue.
