Would you trust a contactless payment solution that can't even securely store emails from those people who have signed up to be included in the service in the future? MCX, the company pushing the CurrentC competitor to Apple Pay and Google Wallet, sent people who have signed up for announcements about the service the email seen above stating that "Within the last 36 hours, we learned that unauthorized third parties obtained the e-mail addresses of some of you. Based on investigations conducted by MCX security personnel, only these e-mail addresses were involved and no other information."
This may further tarnish the reputation of the contactless payment system, which is already under fire for shutting down the ability of Apple Pay users to pay at Rite Aid, CVS, Best Buy and other retailers.
