The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

It’s nothing new to see different individuals collaborating on a single project on desktops: the success of TeamViewer has been evident. However, team collaboration tools have also grown in importance on smartphones during recent years as project managers look for quick access to files and activity without having to be present in front of a computer.

hiTask is a team management app for iOS that might not be the most feature rich offering, but includes project management features for teams such as assigning tasks, sharing tasks, receiving push notifications and a lot more. You can also assign different devices to a single account made for the app.

How to use hiTask for iOS

After downloading and installing the app on your device, you have to create an account that is accessible as free for life directly through the app, or you can use the online account which you created at the web service for hiTask.

You can perform all standard project management tasks and when you make changes through the desktop application, they’re reflection the iPhone app in real time. Creating a project is pretty easy and can be done through the ‘+’ sign at the top right corner of the screen. Then the team feature can be used to assign tasks to different people, and the list of people added to the team will be displayed along with their headshots.

There is also a notes feature which allows you to make comments or send messages to the team members, and you can also use it to write down thoughts, random notes and ideas without having to open up the default notes application. What’s more useful is that the notes are synced with your account and can be kept under specific headings.

Each of the projects can also be assigned a priority of high, medium and low, so anyone working on multiple projects would know which projects to focus on first and which can be done a bit late. All the tasks are arranged in an ascending order by date and can be seen by scrolling through the list. You can also set up email notifications to inform team members that task are due and track the time spent on task completion.

Final thoughts

hiTask is a decent offering for team task management and can be particularly useful in instances where it wouldn’t be feasible to carry a computer or a laptop. The app was recently updated for iOS 7 and now includes a simple and a flat design.

The latest version 4.0 also brings an option to move tasks between projects and give users the ability to see history and comments or the time log of an item with a rightward swipe, and the same gesture can be used to add a new task or delete the existing one.

You can download hiTask 4.0 free of cost from the App Store. Let us know your opinion when you try out this app.
