The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

Eventually I gave this a try after all the criticisms have settled.

Ayeris is a new Winterboard theme for iOS 7 created by well-known designer Surenix with a controversial price tag of $3.99. The word ayeris, which is pronounced as Iris, like the ring-shaped membrane in your eye or the Greek god of the rainbow, is about communicating the excellence of timeless design to and for the world, according to Surenix in the package description. This appears to be what he strives for by releasing this new theme since the existence of ayecon, his iOS 6 based theme.

The first release of theme package is already shipping with more than 200 re-designed icons, 6 wallpapers, status bar icons and some system UI alternations. You may not be able to see drastic difference or revamp on the app icons being themed. And Surenix emphasized that each App Store icon was designed with the grid system in mind which follows the same logic that how John Ives drew the iOS 7 icons.

But that being said, they look less irritating to eyes comparing to the default iOS 7 stock icons. They are smooth and soft. The third party icons are also crafted to fit the overall feeling of the theme and icons as well. And unlikely you need to spent time to get used to how the icons are themed and locate it.

Except the icons, the status bar icons and many parts of the system UI are themed with subtle but critical improvements. As far as I am able to discover, the round bullet for new/updated apps turns to a little star; more subtle folder icons in Mail App; bottom menu icons of the App Store App and Safari. I could not replace the word subtle but to me they somehow looks better.

Overall, I think this is a well-designed theme with not only icon bundles but also UI modifications. I like how the stock iOS 7 looks like and I do not feel uncomfortable or uneasy with ayeris masking over.

It was said that ayeris’ launch day was a huge success with over 4000+ downloads. What do you think about it? Will you purchase and download the genuine copy of ayeris? Let us know in the comments section below.
