The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

There’s no shortage of options when it comes to email clients for iOS, and many of them are preferred over the native email offering. For those of you looking for something different, Boxer (formerly known by the name Taskbox) offers something different by offering a whole tool set to deal with emails.

The app basically allows you to take control of your mailbox through the use of tools and swiping gestures. The co-founder Jason Shellen says the focus of the app is more on the management and response aspect.

How to use Boxer for iOS

After downloading and launching Boxer on your iPhone, you get a few insights on what the app has to offer. The next step is to connect an email account so that you’re taken directly to the inbox. You can also tweak the default interface of the app through the Settings menu.

You can now use a left or right swipe on any email message to see different options such as Delete, Spam and Archive. The app can also be used for sending more than one attachment with an email, which can either be files taken from your Dropbox account or the files stored on your phone or image library. All the emails are accompanied by the profile picture of the sender and you can also see their social profiles and other details.

You can also create a certain task by swiping rightwards on an email message to access to To-Do option. Long pressing on the option will let you assign a date for the task, and the menu for the to-dos option also has a priority feature for the task. To set up to-dos that should be collaborated option, you can select the request option. Boxer also lets you set push notifications for email messages.

The main ‘dashboard’ allow you to look email messages that you haven’t checked out as well as the pending tasks. The badges are only displayed for the emails that haven’t been opened, but the app does allow you to toggle on the badges option for all uncompleted tasks. There are several templates you can choose from; you can set automated response of appreciation by choosing the like template and the quick button lets you select other different templates available.

Final thoughts

The app was also updated for iOS 7 at the end of last year, featuring a refreshed design, an improved rendering feature and Dynamic Type support. There is also an option to send emails to Evernote with just a tap.
