The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

6-8 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period has been suggested for a healthy lifestyle, but there are so many of us who face problems while sleeping. Because of so many things on our minds today, it can be difficult to enter la la land as soon as we hit the bed.

Sleep Genius is an iOS application that aims to solve this problem. It will play ambient music and sound effects so that you can fall asleep, and it comes particularly useful at those times when you need those power naps (it even has a dedicated menu for short nap cycles). The app also has a unique way of waking up the user, over a gradual course of 5 minutes.

How to use Sleep Genius for iOS

Be patient after you install it on your iPhone because after you open it, the app will take a few minutes to download additional sounds. You can also sign up for the app’s newsletter at this point to keep up with the latest surrounding Sleep Genius.

After the setup, you’ll be presented with 3 audio programs (2 paid for $2.99 + 1 free). The free one is known by the name ‘Renewed Universe’. Regardless of the program that you select, you can configure the app to wake you up by continuously playing the audio, or play for a certain amount of time and then stop.

The continuous playback option can work without brightening the iPhone screen so battery life isn’t affected to a great extent.

Moving on, the highlight of the app is the Alarm option. The app doesn’t play a loud sound or an annoying noise to wake you up, but starts with natural sounds for 5 minutes prior to the alarm, and the Revive Cycle wakes you up when the alarm time finally comes.

There is also a ‘Power Naps’ option that the developer says is backed by scientific research – you can turn on this mode and then leave it on the app to do everything else: Sleep Genius will take care of everything including, alarm sounds, prior music and more.

Other than these features, there is a dedicated section within the app that has everything on sleeping, and users who sign up for the newsletter also receive tips and tricks in their mailbox on sleeping.

Final thoughts

Sleep Genius can be your best friend during the daytime when you want to rejuvenate through a nap and in those nights when there is too much going on in your mind.

You can download the app from App Store free of cost. Let us know if you try it out and feel free to comment.
