The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

Social discovery apps have grown in recent times on the App Store, particularly because of their networking and syncing features. For music lovers, Soundwave Music Discovery offers an interesting way to discover new music through multiple sources and by syncing to your current playlist on streaming services such as Spotify.

The app can also be termed as a social network as you’re allowed to follow friends, family and celebrity figures to discover new music. The app also itself takes data from different sources to make song suggestions.

How to use Soundwave Music Discovery on iOS

After installing in on your device, you can sign up using your Facebook account or create a new Soundwave account using your email address. While you’re setting up the account, the app makes suggestions of people for following, and how to invite friends to the app. You will also be seeing a few pop-ups as you navigate that will show how buttons and features work.

The main interface has an ‘activity feed’ which features the posts shared by the people you’re following. It can include the re-shares of your followers, or the songs they’ve played recently. You can also apply filters using the icon at the top right for making sure the feed doesn’t get too crowded.

These filters will allow you to disable notifications for shares, suggested songs and rating posts. You can then hear the songs in the feed by pressing the play button, but it would just be a preview. You have to purchase the song within the app to listen to its complete version, or you can stream the song on SoundCloud or YouTube (if it’s available there) to listen to the complete version.

The app will post the tracks you listen from a streaming music service or the music player to the feed, but you can also disable this automatic posting using the option called guilty pleasure. And in the ‘explore’ section of the app, you can see what the community is up to and their played, liked and disliked tracks. The Music Map will allow you to see tracks that are trending in different regions.
