Apple publishes diversity data Posted: 13 Aug 2014 06:08 PM PDT Apple has today followed the recent trend from other tech giants and has released diversity data from across the company. The data shows how Apple's workforce is distributed across ethnicity and gender and takes in the full breadth of Cupertino's 98,000 strong workforce, for CEO Tim Cook to the guys and girls who work in the Apple store near you. Throughout the company, 55% of employees are White, 15% are Asian, 11% are Hispanic, and 7% are Black. If we look closer at the more tech oriented positions the numbers change slightly, with the White demographic moving down to 54%, followed by 23% for Asians. It is a similar story with executive positions within Cupertino, 64% of employees are White, 21% are Asian, 6% are Hispanic, and 3% are Black. There are more males than females in Apple's organization, with 70% of the workforce being men and 30% women. Those numbers change again with tech positions, with males climbing to 80%. Apple's stats are better than other tech companies in this regard and the company has been commended today by equality bodies. Cupertino's CEO Tim Cook said that equality went beyond race and gender, including "personal qualities that usually go unmeasured, like sexual orientation, veteran status, and disabilities." Cook added: Apple is committed to transparency, which is why we are publishing statistics about the race and gender makeup of our company. Let me say up front: As CEO, I'm not satisfied with the numbers on this page. They're not new to us, and we've been working hard for quite some time to improve them. We are making progress, and we're committed to being as innovative in advancing diversity as we are in developing our products. Inclusion and diversity have been a focus for me throughout my time at Apple, and they're among my top priorities as CEO. I'm proud to work alongside the many senior executives we've hired and promoted in the past few years, including Eddy Cue and Angela Ahrendts, Lisa Jackson and Denise Young-Smith. The talented leaders on my staff come from around the world, and they each bring a unique point of view based on their experience and heritage. And our board of directors is stronger than ever with the addition of Sue Wagner, who was elected in July.
