It's always good to having a multitude of options when typing on the iOS keyboard.

And something was already expected when Apple first revealed that it would let users set third-party keyboards as default.

MyScript Stack is one of the third-party keyboards that can now be set as a default keyboard for those running iOS 8 devices.

The app provides a superimposed input and a character by character method interface. The user’s handwritten input is recognized instantly and converted into digital text.

How to use MyScript Stack keyboard for iOS 8

After downloading and installing the app on your phone, you can start handwriting any word you prefer, letter on top of letter, instead of typing in manually.

After you set MyScript Stack is the default keyboard, you can open a document that you wish to type in and a blank box is going to appear. All you need to do at this point is draw a better. The app will then analyze the lines and transmit the letter you wrote into a file document.

You don’t have to write words the conventional style. You can stack letters one on the top of another, and just leave a fraction of a second between words when doing it. That’s also where the word ‘stack’ in the app comes from.

There are also gestures for space and delete. Swiping across the keyboard from left to right will make a space, and swiping from right to left will delete a letter. Manual controls can also be used for space and delete if you don’t want to rely on gestures.

Apart from the handwriting feature, predictive typing and auto-correct is also there within the app. As words are scribbled, the app will determine what you want to write. If you type a wrong word, the one written next to it is actually the right one and can be chosen instead.

There is also an option to switch between dark and light themed modes, or the app can be set to adjust to the background that it sits on top of. The thickness of the ‘ink’ color can be modified in the settings to medium, fine or thick.

Final thoughts

MyScript Stack offers a fun way to write. The app developers also say it does not collect any private information of the user. The only constraint is that the user needs to grant the app access to the default keyboard in order to take advantage of language packs.

You can download MyScript Stack for iOS 8 free of charge from the App Store. Let us know if you give it a try and feel free to leave comments.
