Galaxy S6 vs iPhone 6: Are They Too Similar?

It was a big day for Samsung as they announced two new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. These two new phones have caused quite a stir with many claiming that Samsung have just copied Apple. Below we have the details so that you can make up your own mind.

Samsung have announced the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge which are both identical except that the Edge has a curved screen towards the left and right edges. The phones are lovely to look at but what has been mentioned is that they look like a rip off of Apple iPhone 6. The phones are very similar right the way down to the iPhone's antenna lines. Looking at the bottom of the Galaxy S6 shows what at a first glance could be an iPhone 6 or an iPhone 6 Plus, even down to the speaker placement. Samsung used to have their speaker on the back but with the redesign of the Galaxy S6 this couldn't happen.

The new Galaxy S6 has a new glass back that is similar to what the iPhone 4 had. In another big twist and in a very iPhone way, the new Galaxy S6 doesn't have a removable battery or expandable memory. There is a protruding camera on the back and the back cover doesn't come off. Waterproofing that was a great feature of previous Galaxy models has also been ditched in favor of this new premium design. The new fingerprint sensor works very like the Apple Touch ID where you now just have to touch your finger to register the fingerprint as opposed to swiping on the Galaxy S5. Add to all of this the fact that Samsung have implemented their own mobile payment system called Samsung Pay and these new phones really do seem very similar to the iPhone 6.

According to some reports, and images are available on the web to confirm all of this, Apple's EarPods have seen their design being mimicked with the new Samsung phones coming with earphones that look very familiar.

We all know that Apple and Samsung have a long history of battling and legal issues and these latest announcements could see even more court cases ensuing. On the other side of all this though it just goes to show that technology that works is always popular and there are always going to be similar products and improvements that are copied and made better. What do you think of the new model Samsung Galaxy S6, is it too similar to the iphone? Let us know what you think below.
