The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

Social media services have changed the way images are shared on the web. Now almost every other platform allows mentioning of friends and family with ‘@’ and users can also add a textual description to accompany the image.

ThingLink is an iOS app based on a similar concept, but it works differently in the sense that the tags added become a part of the image rather than its companion, and the tags can be placed anywhere on the photo. Moreover, you get to use video tags on the images with this offering.

How to use ThingLink for iOS

After installing this app from the App Store and opening it on your device, you can start browsing through the posts made by other users to get a quick glimpse on its functionality, and there isn’t even a need to create an account.

The bottom left of the screen has a square icon that can be used to access the user stream, and this section contains photos in grids that can be accessed with just a single tag. The icons spread across the images will allow you to see the mentioned tags and you can also read the text. Also, the videos can be played directly without having to open up a separate screen through video tags.

Do note that you need to connect one of your social media services or email to create your own images, and after granting access, you can either take new images directly from within the app or choose one from the phone library. For videos, you can record a new one or add one from YouTube or from the phone library.

After selecting a picture, you can tap it to include tags, and there’s no limit on the number that can be placed. And apart from images and videos, you can also include links inside the tags. The service also has a web version, which means others can see the images with associated tags without having to download the app. Your sharing options include Twitter, Facebook and email.

Final Verdict

ThingLink is a simple concept that works well for mentions in the form of videos, links and images. It can therefore be used to introduce others to people they might know, or make someone laugh through an associated video on his/her picture.

You can download ThingLink free of charge. Let us know if you give it a try and feel free to leave comments.
