Facebook Messenger App Now Allows Video Calling on iOS and Android

The Facebook Messenger app offers some really great tools and features even if it has been the cause of a lot of talk over the last year. The app caters to most users’ requirements, but the one thing that has been missing when it comes to standing up to their rivals is video chat and specifically the lack of it. If you have always wanted to see this feature being made available, the official announcement from Facebook will really please you. It has been confirmed that video calling will soon be included among the features of the Messenger app, with iOS and Android users across 18 different countries benefiting from it right away.

This announcement came via the company’s official Newsroom, face-to-face video chat is coming, and starting up a video conversation is as simple as tapping the video icon in the top right corner of the in-chat display. With VoIP already part of the Facebook Messenger package, it was somewhat inevitable that video calls would join the party at some point. Even though it has just been announced, it appears that the company is saying that it is fast, reliable and high quality.

Well it can’t be any worse than WhatsApp’s VoIP chat, which has, in recent months, been pushed out to Android and just recently iPhone. The company that Facebook stumped up $22 billion for just over a year ago may be regarded as the go-to Instant Messaging app for most of the world, but its voice calling feature really does leave a lot to be desired so we are hoping that Facebook Messenger’s voice chat is a little bit more refined.

Facebook have stated that this new video calling feature will begin rolling out immediately and there are 18 different countries that are going to get it upon launch. This is available for both iOS and Android users in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, the UK, the US and Uruguay.

The feature will then continue to roll out to other locations over the coming months. We of course will bring you further information as to the where and when as we receive it. But for now, if you are in one of the 18 countries listed above, why not give the Messenger’s video chat a go and come back and let us know what you think in the comments below.
