Dish will add HBO to its Sling TV Internet-based television service, sometime before the new season of HBO's hit show Game of Thrones begins April 12.
Sling TV first launched in early February with a selection of cable TV channels for as low as $20 a month, with more channels available for extra fees. That will certainly be the case for HBO. Customers will have to pay $15 a month extra to get connected to the premium cable channel.
HBO's launch on Sling TV is part of a deal that was reached between Dish and Time Warner, according to The Wall Street Journal. The deal will also allow Dish customers to access the upcoming HBO Now stand alone streaming service, although Dish won't be able to offer HBO Now during its launch period. That is reserved for the Apple TV set-top box, which is expected to go live later in April.
