Jailbreakers Beware: iOS 8.4 Release Is Hours Away, Here’s What You Need To Know

Today will see the official release of iOS 8.4 and with it you will get Apple Music along with a number of fixes for issues like the notorious messages app crashing bug, slow Wi-Fi networking, and other security fixes. Now before you rush off to upgrade your firmware, we want to tell you what you need to know if you are using a jailbreak.

Last week, TaiG released an untethered jailbreak for all devices running iOS 8.1.3 right the way through to iOS 8.3. While it is unlikely that Apple will be able to patch these exploits that quickly when the final release of iOS 8.4 is due so soon, we still haven’t received official confirmation that TaiG’s exploits will be working on iOS 8.4 yet. The Chinese TaiG team haven’t confirmed anything either.

If the iOS 8.3 exploits do work on iOS 8.4, which we hope they do, TaiG 2.x will most likely be updated to support the latest firmware. But just in case it doesn’t work, jailbreakers will have to wait a long time before the next public jailbreak becomes available again.

If you are already running a jailbreak on your device and you want to keep it, then you probably already know what to do; DO NOT update to iOS 8.4 until official confirmation has been received that TaiG is working on iOS 8.4. We will let you all know as soon as we receive confirmation. Also while you are jailbroken it would do no harm to save SHSH blobs for iOS 8.3. SHSH blobs may not be useful for downgrading today but in the future they might be something that you will rely on so it is worth taking the time to save your SHSH blobs now. You can use TinyUmbrella to do this.

If you are running a firmware that is older than iOS 8.3 then we recommend that you upgrade to iOS 8.3 now and jailbreak it using the new TaiG 2.0 untethered jailbreak. Even if you don’t plan on jailbreaking right now, it is still a good idea to upgrade. The iOS 8.3 firmware version has plenty of security and bug fixes compared to older versions and it is the latest jailbreakable firmware. Once iOS 8.4 is released, Apple will stop signing iOS 8.3 after which you won’t be able to update to 8.3. Don’t forget to save your SHSH blobs once you upgrade to iOS 8.3 also and this again can be done using TinyUmbrella.

That’s it for today but remember folks, if you have a jailbroken device, don’t update to iOS 8.4 until you receive official confirmation that there is a working public jailbreak for it.

Tweaks Available on Cydia with iOS 8.3 Jailbreak

On Tuesday we saw the release of a brand new iOS 8.3, 8.2, 8.1.3 jailbreak by TaiG. This is fantastic news for all those people who have been stuck without their favorite Cydia tweaks. They have waited patiently and now the weight is over as they rush to update their firmware and jailbreak all over again. It’s not just as simple as this, and those who update their jailbreak will want to know that their favorite tweaks and apps are going to be compatible.

The TaiG team have just released this new jailbreak that supports iOS 8.1.3 all the way through to iOS 8.3. Because this is a brand new jailbreak there could be a short waiting period before all the tweaks on Cydia get updated. This means that at least in the short term, jailbreakers using iOS 8.3 may find some unexpected behaviour when using certain tweaks and apps.

To help you out, we have a list of tweaks that have been tested with iOS 8.3 and have been proven to be compatible. If you use this list it will help you to avoid those unwanted crashes and resprings that are often caused by a tweak that isn’t quite ready for the latest version of iOS. We would recommend that you take a look at this list and make sure that the tweaks you want are supported before updating to iOS 8.3 because you don’t want to risk taking a functioning jailbroken iOS device and bricking it by updating a few days too early.

The release of TaiG 2.0 jailbreak for iOS 8.1.3 to 8.3 is massive and we expect that tweak developers will be working around the clock to make sure their apps and tweaks are updated and compatible with all versions of iOS. Once Saurik has updated Substrate for iOS 8.3 you can expect a lot more jailbreak tweaks to start working on the latest firmware.

Here is our list of proven and tested iOS 8.3 compatible tweaks on the Cydia store.

Jailbreak iOS 8.3, 8.2, 8.1.3 With Taig 2.0 On iPhone 6 Plus, 6, 5s, iPad, More

We have some amazing news to share today that we know you are going to love as much as we do. It has come totally out of the blue but TaiG 2.0 is here and with it you can now jailbreak iOS 8.3, 8.2 and 8.1.3 on your iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, 5s, 5c, 5, 4s, iPads, and iPod touch. It is currently only available for Windows but it is still fantastic news and news we are so happy to be sharing with you today.

We really weren’t expecting this but we are so delighted it has happened. For those who don’t know, here is the breakdown in the timeline of how this new jailbreak for iOS 8.3 came about.

Jailbreak exploits that were used in previous versions of Pangu, TaiG and PP jailbreak tools for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch were patched by Apple when they released iOS 8.1.3 back in January of 2015. When Apple released iOS 8.2 they patched even more exploits and these were the ones that were needed to make Pangu8, TaiG and PP jailbreaks work their magic. In March 2015, the TaiG team hosted the Mobile Security Summit in Beijing where they updated everyone on the status of their jailbreak progress. Things were looking very bleak and we weren’t sure if we were ever going to see a jailbreak for iOS 8.1.3 and upwards.

When Apple released iOS 8.3 in April, they patched yet another exploit that was being used by TaiG. Things really seemed very bleak until the release of the first beta of iOS 8.4 back in mid-April. Immediately after its release, i0n1c came out with a video that showed his jailbreak for iOS 8.4 working on an iPhone 6. Things were really starting to look up and we were all getting excited again. Then in May it was reported that Apple was working on a new security system called “Rootless” that would make it very difficult to create a jailbreak for iOS 9.

Right before WWDC, another Chinese team Pangu successfully demoed an iOS 8.3 jailbreak at MOSEC which they were planning to release as soon as Apple rolled out iOS 8.4 to the public. At WWDC earlier this month, Apple released iOS 9 beta 1 and iOS 8.4 beta 4. TaiG maintained that they were concentrating on an iOS 9 jailbreak and has no plans for an iOS 8.3 or 8.4 jailbreak.

Shortly after iOS 9 beta 1 was released Chinese jailbreak team “Keen” along with the help of Pangu were said to be working on a jailbreak for iOS 9. TaiG also claimed they were only working on an iOS 9 jailbreak. You can imagine our surprise when this morning completely out of nowhere, TaiG surprised everyone by releasing TaiG 2.0 for jailbreaking all devices on iOS 8.3, iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.1.3. Support is available for all iOS devices including iPhone 6 plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 1, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad Mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 1, and iPod touch 5.

You can watch a video tutorial on how the TaiG 2.0 jailbreak works below.

Why You should Wait for the iPhone 7 Before You Make Your Next Purchase

Now that we are nearing the end of June we can see September easing its way towards us and that means just one thing, a new iPhone model. We already known that many iPhone buyers are trying to make up their mind on whether or not to buy a new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus right now or wait for Apple to announce the next generation iPhone come September. We all love new toys and in this post we want to point out some of the reasons why you should wait a little longer for Apple to announce the new iPhone 7 before you spend your hard earned cash.

Larger and Thicker

The next generation iPhone whether it is to be called the iPhone 6s or the iPhone 7 is rumoured to be thicker and larger than the iPhone 6 that it will replace. This should remove the threat of another bendgate as we seen with last year’s big release. A marginal thicker body on the new iPhone will also put an end to the protruding camera lens on the back.

Force Touch

Force touch is another thing that we are hearing quite a bit about and we would be very surprised if the next iPhone didn’t support Force Touch. Previous reports have revealed that iOS 9 is Force Touch reading and this had led us to believe that the next Apple iPhone will also have the tech for initiation of actions by using a firmer touch on the display just like the Apple Watch. It is also rumoured that Force Touch will be exclusive to the iPhone 6s Plus but we need to wait and see if this really is the case.

Improved Performance

Rumors have also suggested that the next iPhone model will include a whole 2GB of RAM just like the iPad Air 2. It is also like that it will have Apple’s next generation A9 chip. The advantage to these is better multitasking, apps will launch quicker, and gaming will be better than ever.

Larger Battery and Camera Upgrade

Apple is expected to put a slightly larger battery inside the next iPhone and we know that any battery improvement will be very welcome. The next iPhone is also set to have a front-facing camera with 1080p video recording capabilities with flash support. This means that the next iPhone will be a selfie king. This was discovered in the iOS 9 beta code so we can’t wait to see it manifest. It is also rumoured that the iPhone 6s is going to have an improved rear camera too with 12 megapixels.

The next iPhone is just around the corner and this means that we are going to see lots of leaks, reports and rumors circulating over the next couple of months. According to a leak from Vodafone, we should see the announcement for the new iPhone in September just as we did last year.

With all the rumoured features for the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus it really is the worst time to purchase an iPhone 6/6 plus now. If you are looking to upgrade your device we would definitely recommend that you wait a couple of months as you will get a better purchase in the long run.

Apple Didn’t Mention These Great Hidden iOS 9 Features

In this post we want to discuss some of the hidden iOS 9 features for the iPhone and iPad that Apple didn’t talk about at WWDC 2015. We have seen that iOS 9 is amazing when it comes to features and there are some great little changes around every corner if you look close enough. That is probably why Apple chose to skip most of them an only talk about the key ones. In this post however, we want to shed some light on some of the other great features that are included with iOS 9.

Detailed Battery Settings

Going to Settings > Battery and tapping on the ‘three horizontal bars’ icon on right corner reveals a more detailed overview of apps and how much battery life they’ve taken up in terms of screen on time, background activity etc. This is a great little feature that will let you know just what is draining your battery.

New iCloud Drive App

iOS 9 comes with a new dedicated iCloud Drive app so that you can manage your cloud files with ease. It can be enabled in Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive and then tap on “Show on Home Screen”.

Swipe Down On A Photo To Dismiss It

In iOS 9, you can now simply swipe down on a photo in the Photos app to dismiss it and go back to your Albums view.

Quickly Jump Back To Previous App

Whenever you receive a notification and tap on it, you’ll see a new ‘Back to [app name]’ button on the top left of the display, taking you back to your previous app, negating the need to open the multitasking view to achieve the same thing.

Pinch To Zoom In / Out On A Video

If you’re watching a video on your iPhone or iPad, you can simply use the pinch gesture to zoom in or out.

Add Any Attachment Type In Mail

The Mail app now lets you add any type of attachment to an email message. Just tap and hold on the body of the email message and the new options will be revealed. This is a great feature and I know we are going to be using it all the time.

Access Wallet From Lock Screen

Instead of opening the Wallet app from Home Screen, you can access it directly from the lock screen. Simply double click the Home button on lock screen and it will take you straight to Wallet. This can be disabled by going to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Wallet.

Save Attachments Directly To iCloud Drive From Mail

The new Mail app also lets you save attachments to iCloud Drive directly. All you have to do is tap and hold on the attachment file to bring up the new option.

Toggle Flash ON / OFF While Recording Video

A feature that was previously possible only using a jailbreak tweak, you can now turn the device’s flash on or off while recording a video in iOS 9 Camera app.

New Podcasts App UI + Mini Player

There’s a revamped UI for new Podcasts app in iOS 9. Like the Music app, it also features a Mini Player. If you’re a podcast listening fan, then this is a great treat for you.

Quick Suggestion Option In Maps

Tapping on the search bar in Maps app reveals a bunch of new suggestive options, such as Food, Drinks, Travel etc.

Markup In Mail App

Just like OS X Yosemite, you can now use Markup in the iOS 9 Mail app to draw shapes or add scribbles over your image attachments. Tap and hold on an image in the email message, and then tap on ‘Markup.’

‘Request Desktop Site’ Has A New Location

In Safari, you can now access the desktop version of a site by tapping on the Share button. Previously this option could be accessed by tapping on the address bar and pulling down on the display.

New Stock Battery / Find My Friends Widget

The Notification Center has a new ‘Batteries’ widget, which shows you battery stats for your iPhone and even your connected Apple Watch. Apart from that, Apple is also throwing in a new Find my Friends widget.

Bulk Actions In Mail

You can now select all email messages in iOS 9 Mail app at once and perform bulk actions on them such as Mark All, Move All, Trash All.

Touch ID Protected Passwords In Safari

Navigate to Settings > Safari and tapping on Passwords under the General panel opens up a pop-up asking you to verify yourself using Touch ID instead of the usual PIN code option if you have one in place.

Upload Content To Safari From iCloud Drive

You now have the option to upload content in Safari browser using iCloud Drive.

In-App Screen Recording

A feature which required a lot of rigmarole to achieve, iOS 9 will let users record their iPhone or iPad’s display natively using the new ReplayKit API.

Contact Thumbnails In Messages App On All iPhones

A feature exclusive to iPhone 6 Plus users, iOS 9 aims to change that by bringing contact thumbnails to the Messages app for all iPhone users.

Quick Reply For All Apps

Last but not least, iOS 9 also bring the famed Quick Reply feature support to all third party apps.

So there you have it, some of the great hidden gems that are included with iOS 9. We can’t wait for the final firmware version to be released to the public and after reading this post we are sure you feel the same. Let us know in the comments what you favorite new feature is and what you are most looking forward to trying out.
