Video previews how iOS in the Car will operate Posted: 28 Jan 2014 01:00 PM PST Apple revealed in June 2013 that it intended to put iOS in car dashboards through its iOS in the Car feature, but not much else was said or seen related to the news since then. An iOS developer has claimed that he found a way to pull up some aspects of the system in a simulator and run the in car integration system to provide an early idea of how it might work. Take a look at the video below to see a preview. There's a chance that Apple could make changes to user interface, but because this was discovered in a standard code found in iOS 7.0.3, this is probably the general idea of what to expect when Apple and its auto manufacturer partners finally integrate iOS into their automobiles. Another app developer found that there are some cosmetic differences in the iOS 7.1 beta, which is why things might look a little different. Apple did say iOS in the Car launches in 2014, so we should see confirmation before the end of this year. As for the cars you can expect to see iPhone integration, Chevrolet, Honda, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Acura, Infinity, Ferrari, and Opel were named as partners last year. |
Apple may use Touch ID as its gateway to mobile payments Posted: 28 Jan 2014 08:30 AM PST
We recently covered a special iPhone case that supports mobile payments through an NFC system, but Apple may have a different way of letting customers pay for things through their phone. CEO Tim Cook told investors that mobile payments are an "intriguing" opportunity for Apple in light of its credit card database and authentication capabilities, which may make perfect sense for a system to pay for items with a phone. Cook declined to say that Apple will support mobile payments, but his response to a question about whether Apple might enter that field shows that the company has given it serious thought. cook said:
Given that Apple customers tend to be more willing to spend money and enjoy a simpler experience, there's a chance for the company to utilize that support and build a payment solution that could gain more traction than what's currently available. Instead of worrying about cases and PIN codes, someone could just authenticate with Touch ID and pay for an item. We can't expect to see this any time soon, but it might be something Apple seriously pursues. |
