The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

The default photo editor offered by iOS may not have unique editing capabilities. But that doesn’t mean you’re out of options.

The App Store is full of feature-rich photo editors, and amongst the extensive list of offerings, Repix recently caught my attention.

This application includes all the filters you’ll find in top-notch photo editors, but instead of applying these effects to images, Repix gives an option to apply filters to specific parts of an image.

The app also presents brushes for all effects, which can be used to edit images by painting with your finger. You can also use swipe gestures to adjust other areas of the image; all these features make Repix a unique and special offering.

How to use Repix for iOS

After installing the app on your device, you would be given an option to upload photos from three different sources – take a new one from within the application, upload one from camera roll, or take images from your Facebook account by granting the app access to your image library.

Once the Repix editor has your photo, you can make adjustments to it with the round icon in the top bar at the middle. Doing so will open options for changing brightness, vibrancy, temperature, contrast and saturation as well for cropping the image. You would also be able to configure the vignette value from these options.

The app doesn't present you a slider to change these values, but instead allows you to use gestures. You can swipe right to increase the value and left to decrease it. The buttons at the top bar lets you redo and undo any adjustments you don't like.

For applying photo filters to the image, select your preferred affect from the bar at the bottom of the screen. There will be no automatic change in image when you select the filter; these are brushes and have to be manually applied to the areas of the picture.

The available filters/brushes include silk, flares, posterize, charcoal and cartoonize. You can however make in-app purchase from Repix store to add extra filters. The Undoer and Eraser brushes will let you remove any changes made to certain areas of an image.

Final thoughts

I personally feel you;ll like how Repix works, the filter it brings and how it lets you undo changes quickly. You can save the edited images in the camera roll or share them over social media and email. The interface offered by this application is pretty sleek too.

You can download Repix from the App Store free of charge. Let us know if you give it a try and feel free to leave comments.
