The only problem is finding the best ones and so to help you out, we have a list of the best of the year below.

Apple's digital store iTunes released its biggest selling apps of 2014. Three categories have been considered which include the 10 top grossing apps, the 10 top paid apps, and the 10 top free apps. Each category has an iPhone and an iPad version and you can view all the details in the App itself.

Minecraft - Pocket Edition was the number one paid app for both the iPhone and the iPad. Facebook is the number one free app for the iPhone while Skype is the number one free app for the iPad. Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans were the top two apps for both the iPhone and the iPad. Candy Crush Saga is the top grossing app for the iPhone and is followed by Clash of Clans. When it comes to the iPad, it is the Clash of Clans which made it to the top spot followed by Candy Crush Saga. Messaging Apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Snapchat were also in the top three spots for the end of year rankings. Other apps that made it into the list of the top free iPhone apps include Facebook (at number 4), YouTube (at number 5), Instagram (at number 6), Spotify Music (at number 7, Skype for iPhone (number 8), Google Maps (number 9), and Tinder (at number 10).

For the iPad, the list for the top free apps is a little more varied and only includes two messaging apps which are Skype for iPad and Facebook Messenger. Other chart toppers for the iPad include Netflix (number 3), YouTube (number 4), Microsoft Word (number 5), BBC iPlayer (number 6), ITV player (number 7), Ebay for iPad (number 8), Google Maps (number 9) and Calculator for iPad free (number 10).
