Ever since iPhone users received iOS 8 on their devices, most camera apps and releases have featured updates allowing you to tweak things like ISO, focus and exposure, mostly because of the extended access to iOS 8 camera settings enabled by the latest firmware.
However, the new MultiCam app takes a different approach. It lets you adjust exposure and focus on devices running iOS 8, but does it after a shot has been taken, and it adopts a pretty creative approach for the purpose.
How to use MultiCam for iOS 8
After downloading and opening the app on your device, you are given the option to choose from 4 different exposures and 15 different focus points before you take an image. After you take a photo, all the resulting combinations are displayed to you.
The final image is presented in a gallery-like canvas to the user. When you click on the image, sliders appear to enable you to adjust focus and exposure as required. Moving these sliders will show the changes made to the image in real time.
Once dialed in, the image can be saved to the iPhone’s gallery and the app’s version of the image can be deleted. The app supports both the front and back camera, and the shots taken from the app are saved in MultiCam’s internal library. Make sure you don’t need the originals before you delete images from the internal library.
The multiple focus/exposures stream take a couple of seconds, so make sure you’re holding the camera steady. Picking out the best exposed and focused image is easy on the iPhone’s camera, and you can pinch zoom to check your precise focus and enlarge the image.
The app is particularly effective on closeup subjects like insects, and even moving subjects where it may be difficult to get the right focus in a single shot.
Final thoughts
MultiCam is an innovative offering in the way it lets you take images, and would result in images that are better than what you can make with conventional apps.
You can download MultiCam for iOS 8 from the App Store for $1.99. Let us know if you give it a try by commenting below.
