United Airlines has announced that it will equip its flight attendants with iPhone 6 Plus in order to better meet customer needs. In total, the devices will be rolled out to more that 23,000 flight attendants worldwide.
United says that the devices will initially be used for simple tasks:
Upon introduction, the devices will have the ability to handle most onboard retail transactions and will enable access to company email, united.com and the company's Intranet as well as policies and procedures manuals.
However, the airline expects to bring more features to the phones in due time:
Future enhancements include replacing the flight attendants' printed safety manual with an electronic version on their iPhones and providing real-time reporting and improved follow-up on aircraft cabin issues and repairs. Additionally, United plans to develop a number of customer-focused tools for the device.
United says that the distribution of devices will begin in the second quarter of 2015.
