Apple Continues to Humiliate Samsung… Equals Smartphone Sales Posted: 29 Jan 2015 12:11 PM PST The idea of Apple catching up with Samsung in terms of how many smartphone it sells seemed almost impossible less than a year ago. Samsung was completely in control of the market and Apple was just happy in its own place in the market selling big numbers and making huge amounts of money. However, in the last quarter Apple managed to reel in its great rival and both companies sold 74.5 million units. The October to December quarter saw Samsung's decline continue while Apple sold record amounts of the iPhone. Samsung fell from 86 million devices from 2013 while Apple increased from 51 million in 2013. An amazing turn of events saw Apple meet Samsung head on, and sure it is probably not going to last in future corners, but this is a severe bloodying of the nose for Samsung. Interestingly, I like to remind that Apple only has five smartphones on the market, while Samsung has nearly 40… it's amazing to think that many really thought Samsung would end up ending Apple's dominance over the industry.

Google Play Dominated by App Store in 2014 Posted: 29 Jan 2015 11:30 AM PST Google Play is the king of app stores, that's if you look at how many apps are downloaded at least. In terms of app downloads, App Annie's research found that Google Play crushes the Apple App Store, which is not much of a surprise considering Android totally dominates the mobile market. However, Apple's App Store is still really the king of app stores, because it does the thing all companies want… it makes money. Much more money than Google Play too, with Apple's service raking in more than 60% more revenue than Google's offering. It was a huge 2014 for the App Store as it made 40% as much money over the year as it had through years 2008 to 2013. That accounted for $10 billion in revenue and is staying successful in major markets like United States, Japan, Europe, and South Korea.

Apple Soars to Top of Market in China Posted: 28 Jan 2015 03:53 PM PST What an amazing day it has been for Apple. Cupertino revealed huge record profits and unbelievable sales figures for the iPhone over the last quarter. To top it off, 2014 was a big year for the company where it started to make headway in China, a company that had been the playground of Samsung and Xiaomi. China has warmed to the iPhone with the larger screened iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and for this quarter at least, Apple is the biggest smartphone company in the country. That's the news according to reputable research firm Canalys. Xiaomi has been the top dog in China for the last year, but for this quarter it has yielded its place to Apple. Sure, the Chinese brand will probably regain its position in future periods, but for now Apple can bask in more glory. More than that, it is huge that Apple has overtaken Samsung in China, something that seems to be more long term.

Apple Breaks Record for Most Profitable Quarter in Business, Ever Posted: 28 Jan 2015 02:21 PM PST Apple has just done what no other smartphone company could, more than what any other tech company could, and more than what any company could period. On the back of 74 million iPhone sold last quarter, Apple put together the most profitable three month period ever recorded in the business world…. Eat that Samsung and Android. Indeed, Apple is the only company to even make it in the top twenty best quarters ever, in a list dominated by oil companies Cupertino appears six times. It is this latest quarter that has smashed records though, with $18 billion made, Apple surpassed the $16 billion made by Russian oil giant Gazprom by $2 billion.

Apple Watch Due in April Posted: 28 Jan 2015 02:02 PM PST Apple is the toast of Wall Street and the tech world once again, but many a wondering when the next big thing will come from the company. However, it is actually just around the corner as Cupertino has not actually released the Apple Watch yet, announcing the device way back in September but not launching it. Tim Cook shed some light on the wearable during Apple's earnings call yesterday. The CEO said that the company's first smartwatch will launch in April this year, just missing the first quarter. By then there will have been seven months since the Apple Watch was announced, so I predict that the device will land with some features we have not been treated to just yet.
