The iPhone and iPad Blog by Simon

A while ago I was engaged in a business plan with a friend of mine about mobile games. Mind-mapping is the very first thing after brainstorming in order to best capture and visualise our pieces of ideas. It is yet one of the best school-taught methods to organise ideas in an intuitive way. I did try a few iOS apps on the iPad that allow me to do so. However, they never do a good job due to some weird bugs or lack of ease to use. Until recently I opted into MindNode.

Mindnode

Being was featured by Apple as an "App Store Best", MindNode aims at helping students, artists and project managers to be more creative with less effort. It makes mind mapping easy in the sense that it offers minimal but powerful editing environment. The overall experience of jotting down ideas and creating mind maps in the app is basically intuitive and effortless. A new node is just one finger tap away and you can extend it to infinity.

The completely redesigned style inspector and theme picker now support iPad style sidebar in landscape mode on all iPhone models and added the ability to set node auto-width. The new font picker with support for downloadable fonts and support for searching fonts by name. It is possible to disable bold/italic buttons when the current font doesn’t support it and use the inspector to change text attributes on current selection in edit mode.

Redesigned export workflow make it easier to share your documents. You can export your work in different formats and it remembers the last selected export type. You can now open the export file in other apps via Shared Extensions or use AirDrop to exchange documents between Mac and iOS, thanks to better intergration since iOS 8 and OSX Yosemite.

The version 3.5 update also brings in the following new gestures

• Three finger swipe away from parent node to create child node of current selected node

• Three finger swipe to parent node to fold current selected node

• Three finger swipe down to create sibling of current selected node

• Drag and hold to detach a node from its parent

In addition, the new version of MindNode includes the following enhancements:

• Support for image-only nodes

• "New document" shortcut in document picker

• Moved Dropbox import to + button in the navigation bar

• Fixes issues with Dynamic Type

• Add image icon for nodes with images in outline

• Hide statusbar in landscape mode

• Smooth animations in document picker

• Double tap on node resize handlers to reset node width

• Nodes attached to a main node are now sorted clockwise in outline view and text outline export

• Animate node text on location changes

• Don't register two undo operation when adding an image

• Don't create an empty undo group when exiting title editing without making a change

• To prevent accidental drags of selected nodes, wait and hold to drag node

Optimise for both iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, MindNode – Delightful Mind Mapping is available on the App Store for $9.99.
