Another voice has been heard from in the chorus of those praising the cameras built into Apple's newest smartphones. DxO Labs, a French-based software company that maintains a website of technical measurements of lenses and cameras, has given the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 cameras the top ratings of all mobile devices.
The DxOMark scores of 82 for both phones bested the competition, with Samsung's Galaxy S5 and Sony's Xperia Z3 and Z2 in the third through fifth spots with a 79 score. Apple's iPhone camera technology has improved drastically since the iPhone 4, which is in the 25th spot on the list with a score of 50.
The new, faster autofocus on both phones captured the attention of the DxOMark Mobile team, which referred to the video autofocus as "very fast, accurate and repeatable. Best ever tested by DxOMark Mobile team, at the time of testing."
Other pros for the iPhone 6 cameras include "attractive color rendering", "good detail preservation outdoors and indoors", and "good performance with flash." On the negative side, DxO noticed some noise in low light conditions, and ghosting and fringing with the iPhone 6.
