Other Apple news: Beast Music to close, iPhone 6 screen gets praise Posted: 22 Sep 2014 02:44 PM PDT Apple could close Beats Music Only last week Tim Cook spoke to Charlie Rose and talked almost misty eyed about how Beats Music had soul, whereas other streaming rivals didn't. He said that he could feel the music more because Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine (Beats co-founders) understood music and how tracks can work together. It seems a radical shift that the company would now be considering closing the service, but according to the very reputable guys at TechCrunch:
The new Retina HD gets praise So what you may be thinking, but Soneira is actually the president of DisplayMate, the most prestigious screen authority on this good green planet of ours. However, he is finally on the Retina train as he praised the new displays on the iPhone 6 range, saying he had been waiting for this leap since the iPhone 4 in 2010 (not sure if he is referencing the quality or the size).
He now says the Retina on the new iPhones is the best LCD he has ever seen. You can check out his lengthy but very interesting report at the source. |
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus crush records on way to 10 million+ weekend sales Posted: 22 Sep 2014 02:34 PM PDT
Last year the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c combined to sell over 9 million, so the new handsets have comfortably beaten that. However, not as comfortably as some may have thought, but there are a couple of reasons why. Firstly, as Cook mentions, there was not enough supply, especially in terms of the iPhone 6 Plus. If Apple could have got more units on the ground they would have sold, but the company is working to get more available. In fact, over 80 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets will be made before the end of the year, and Apple expects that every single one will be sold. The second reason is China. Last year the iPhone 5s and 5c were available in the country from day 1, but this year the 6's have not been given regulatory permission yet. Conservative estimates say that Apple could have surpassed 13 million in iPhone 6 sales had China been included from launch day, but many people think it could have been as high as 15 million. As it was, the launch countries were: Apple will eventually roll the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus out to 114 countries before the end of the year (China included), with the next batch of nations set for September 26th. Take a look below to see if your country is included in the next roll out: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates. |
iOS 8 adoption rates crush Android’s Posted: 22 Sep 2014 02:27 PM PDT It turns out that over 30% of all users running an iOS device have upgraded to the 8th version of the platform, and it has only been available for three days. Before we touch on those specific numbers for Apple, let's focus on how they are so much better than anything Android could do. Android 4.4 KitKat, the build that was created to start a process that will extend into Android L to unify the platform currently stands at around 25%. So, a quarter of all Android devices run the latest version… not bad, but not great either considering KitKat has been available since last November. To put that in perspective, iOS 8 surpassed KitKat's 10 month adoption rates in just three days. It is virtually impossible for KitKat or L to meet Apple's adoption levels, with 90% of all iOS users able to upgrade to iOS 8 and likely to do so before the year is out. That certainly happened with iOS 7 and will happen again this time, and that's why the App Store is still miles better than the Google Play Store; developers simply know what device they are building for and also what platform build. As for iOS 8 vs. iOS 7, the newer version is actually down on its predecessor, which raced to 50% of all devices within three days of release. However, iOS 7 was seen as a new dawn, a massive re-tooling and overhaul of the platform, whereas iOS 8 is much more of a continuation. |
